What I can remember from it is in early England, young girl (maybe 9 or 10) is forced to live with her uncle and her father's passing. I know the servants who work for the uncle are very cruel to her. She decides to explore her uncle's big house when she finds a young crippled boy (roughly the same age) in a bed in the basement/dungeon, who turns out to be her cousin. He comes off very stubborn at first because of his disability and his father not being around very much but the young girl takes an intrest to her cousin and begins to read him stories after everyone goes to sleep. Later, she and her friend help the boy to walk again and begin chanting to bring his father home.
