This story was set in England most likely in the 50s-60s.
One night the lead, a blonde girl, meets an older man who is a friend of the family and who is unhappily married. Out of loneliness and sadness they sleep together that night and the girl becomes pregnant.
She marries a guy her age and goes live with him and his mother, who is not terribly friendly. I can't remember if the mother in law knew the baby was not her son's but I think he knew it wasn't his.
I also think she married beneath her social class but I don't recall anything about her family to be able to tell for sure.
I don't remember if it was a movie or a miniseries, only that I watched it between 2006-09.
