I watched a movie years and years and years ago (british/American maybe?) in colour, made for tv perhaps? all I can remember is there was perhaps a governess/teacher/maid? and a boy/teenager - I think she leaves for some reason, and the scene that stuck with me is that he is banging on a high window to stop her and it breaks? Perhaps he falls and dies? It had a really pretty but sad credit song. I have some recollection of perhaps the parents being older and slightly strange/ perhaps wanting help for their son or sending him to military school or something? Perhaps some kind of family secret? Sorry it is so incredibly vague but any help would be wonderful thank you
