Title Help

Hi all,
I am looking for a title of a series shown in the 80's/early 90s which was about 2 sisters. I remember there were lot's of china dolls (that cried) and in the end the house burnt down that was on a lake. Also, at some point, a doll was put on a chair in the middle of the road to make sure a car stopped (on a country Lane). The Radio Times published the ending before it was seen on TV which resulted in uproar.
Any help will be much appreciated - been looking for this title for a long time.
