I remember watching a movie about a boy of 10-13 years old during the Great Depression. His father had to go on business and his aunt and uncle could only take in 1 of the 2 sons so the older one, mentioned above, was left alone to guard their belongings in a rented apartment. The mother had TB or something and was in a sanitarium. The kid almost starved to death and at one point he was drawing food and cutting the paper with a knife and fork and eating it, pretending it was food. The teacher would share her lunch with him but at some point she left because she moved away. I've searched for this movie in Google with key words but never found it.
