Period piece where rich man's son marries a French woman and has a child, but does not tell his father because he doesn't like the French. Before he can confess his marriage, tThe son dies and his father grieves and eventually finds out he has a grandchild. He takes in the grandson, but leaves the daughter in law in poverty. Eventually he take her in too. Can't remember the name of the film. Can you help?
