In 2006 I watched a modern film set anywhere between civil war and Victorians (I don't remember exactly). I remember a family on the run with little children at least 2 girls, perhaps the woman ran off with a lover and she was of high birth?. They go abroad but they're on the run and wanted. They're on the move when eventually They find sanctuary with a lovely family under a false identity. When they're discovered they escape on a small boat where 1 or more of the little girls get sick and dies. They're captured and transported back to England where they stand trial, I think she's pregnant or just had a baby, the man with her (her lover) is executed in not sure what her sentence was but I remember a dramatic court scene at the end. It was such a sad film I cried my heart out.
