set in the 50s or something, a girl wants to go to cambridge but can't because she's from a proper family but her brother whose name is edward i think goes, and her boyfriend goes too, but when he comes back he's a different person than house she remembers and he leaves her or something? and then she becomes a nurse for the army and hopes that one day she'll see him again
