More details. When the main character met the father and daughter, they were living in a house that they found empty. For some reason, there was a wolf/dog hybrid that was at the house and became protective of them. When they all left the house because of people trying to capture the main character, the dog followed. The came upon a train full of Russian soldiers. The main character posed as a doctor and tried to find someone, but ended up being taken to the commander. They tried to escape by riding their horses through the forest, but the Russians shot at them and killed the father.
