Hello, I remember watching a movie that was set in the 1920's or 1930's, and it seem like the film was made in the 1970's. I remember the end of the film seemed really disconnected to the rest of the story, and it intrigued me. The movie end with this wealthy man, main character, who goes on some sort of exploration in South America or Africa, not sure. He ends up getting very sick, nearly dying, and the rest of his party leaves him to go get help. He is discovered by a native gentleman who nurses him back to health. However, he then holds the man hostage, forcing him to read to him every day for the rest of his life. Very strange, unsettling ending. I believe the movie was based on a book. Anyone know?
