This is a black and white thriller you'd see on AMC or TCM. It was probably made in the 1940s or 50s, but set circa 1910. A woman lives alone in a big house. I think she's a teacher; perhaps piano. A strange man comes by looking for work. She has him scrub her floors. While he's doing that, her teenage niece comes by. The niece thinks she's all that and becomes offended that the man isn't checking her out. The niece leaves, and the man traps the woman in the house. She tries to attract the attention of children outside, but they can't hear her because they are setting off fireworks (Fourth of July?). I don't remember how it ends.
