Title Help

In reply to:

Hello - I'm looking for the title of a romance novel I read when I was in highschool (so, late 80s). Not sure the title or the author. The heroine went to work in the mans home or because he's her new guardian (estate, England, 18th or 19th century). It was very Jane Eyre/Wuthering Heights-ish derivative but less well written. As they're falling in love it turns out that the reason he is so difficult is because he has a congenitally short leg and has to wear a strange boot/shoe to equalize his legs. He tries to ditch her because he thinks he's not good enough or something. She convinces him in the end to go without the shoe (it causes him pain) and they live happily ever after. I remember of the 100s of Barbra Cartland and other romances of my mothers that I read, this one stuck with me. Wouldn't mind reading it again. Thanks in advance for any help!
