Your first sounds like "The Ring" (Danielle Steel/Nastassia Kinski) A young German woman refugees to America with aide from a Jewish organization after WWII; however, she is already pregnant by her now dead German soldier husband. She takes ill on-board and a young Jewish intern/doc cares for her. Upon arrival in NY the doc's family cares for her thinking she is Jewish and nope (If I remember correctly) she can't say the Jewish dinner prayer.
