Title Help

I'm trying to remember the title of an old (possibly 1940's) black and white film.
From what I can remember, it has two women (possibly sisters), both about 30 or so, one blonde and kind, the other dark haired and 'untrustworthy'. They share an old mansion next to a forest.
I think the film ends with a little girl who has got lost in the forest being found by the dark haired woman - you get the impression she's going to kill her, but suddenly she has a change of heart and spares her / looks after her. I think at this point it is snowing too (or there is snow on the ground).
