Title Help

Hi I'm looking for the title of a series from around the 97-00 (i believe) time, all I can remember are some plot points but here goes
* set in a big posh house with a large stained glass window, which the mother of the story throws herself through killing herself
* her husband was abusive/alcoholic
* whole story I'd being told through flash backs by a man to his deaf daughter
* involves two brothers who both love same women
* one brother kills the woman (mum of daughter mentioned above) and possibly himself with shot gun!
Would be so grateful if anyone knows the answer I have wonders for years!!!!
