I remember seeing a period film when I was a boy (in the mid 1990's) but I cannot remember the title, the cast, or any major details. All I remember ...It is about a young woman in early 19th century who goes to live near the sea. There is a duplicitous clergyman who is very pale and creepy. It ends with some other man rescuing the girl from the clergyman. I remember the film having a very moody look with a limited color palette. It was probably broadcast on A&E in the United States, but I don't know if it was a television adaptation or a screen adaptation that was played on television. Does anyone know what movie this is?
