18th or 19th century, England. Story is about bastard orphan whose virtuous mother was duped into sleeping with an unscrupulous, rich soldier by means of an elopement and fake wedding staged by the soldier and his coniving friends on the eve of deployment to battle. The girl becomes pregnant , dies in childbirth or shortly after, and the soldier is killed in battle before the families can force a real wedding.
I believe the first episode of this limited series came out in 2018-2019 and aired on DirecTV. However, the subsequent episodes were broadcast on a non-DirecTV subscription network.
Any ideas as to the title of the series or perhaps the novel?
