Please help. It is an obscure little foreign film which story takes place in early/mid 20th century. A sea man returns to his British(?) Isle village with his African bride. When he goes back to sea, the lonely young woman is left to cope with the villagers who shun her. The film is in black and white and, as far as I recall is not subtitled. I saw it on television in perhaps the early 1960s if memory serves me. Thank you.
