I vaguely remember a period drama mini-series in the 80s/90s, around the time Catherine Cookson was popular. I believe it was set in a village by the Sea, and that the main character, a guy was having a relationship with a woman who lived in a house outside the village. One of the events in the show that I remember was a teenage boy takes some young girls out in to the harbor area in a boat and they all end up drowning apart from the boy. When the boy is recovered he is beaten by the main character for his actions. I'm really struggling to find this off of these details, if you have any ideas, please help!
