There's a movie about a woman who had an older sister that ran away when both of them were young and she spends her time trying to figure out what happened to her . The movie has several flashback scenes and I remember the two girls' mother was abusive/neglectful and I think that's why the older girl left. I think the film was Australian, that or the main actress was from Australia/New Zealand. It ends with the woman never figuring out what happened and I believe she's on a beach at the ending scene.
