Title Help

i am looking for a title of either a tv mini series or a one off. the only parts i can remember are a girl witnessing her mum get murdered and has to move in with who i think is her auntie and her little sister. i remember she has a backpack with some personal things in and she keeps it very close. one day her i assume cousin tried to look in the bag but she ran at him with a pair of scissors. this may all seem confusing but i have had it stuck in my head for while and its been bugging me. it may even be part of a bigger series.
