Title Help

I sent a message regarding the title of a move on the email. The story is a B & W movie in a flashback format. An English gentleman is telling a story about WW II when he was an officer and was going to destroy an Italian (I believe) town. he meets a woman from the town, falls in love and she convinces him to stop the bombing. He contacts Churchill, gets the bombing halted saving the town. When he leaves he gives the woman his valuable watch presumably never to see her again. At the close of the movie when he is alone he pulls the watch out to check the time indicating he did return to see the woman again.
