I remember a film (1980s?) where a french artist creates themed partys for french aristocrats/royalty. There is a scene where he creates a very elaborate boat to sail on the lake and at the party the son of his employer sets the boat alight. The artist becomes more and more unhappy with his life and it all ends badly. Ring a bell anyone.
