Title Help

I'm trying to find the name of a book but i only have a few plot points:
-Set in the 1800s
-Theres a set of twin girls, one is outgoing and popular, one is quiet. The outgoing one dies, and the quiet one takes over her personality.
-I believe it was set in Paris, or they traveled to Paris at some point.
-I think the main character was a guy that assisted and inventor.
I think i read this book somewhere around 2009 or 2010, and it was definitely a Mystery book.
