This film was out on Netflix streaming and was yanked off earlier this year. It was a film that was made sometime between 2007-2014, but it took place either in the late 70s or early 80s. I want to say upstate NY, but it could have been any suburban college town. The only thing I can remember about this film is that a teenage boy had just graduated from high school and he was an artist who would paint in his basement and would hide his art work from his parents. He wanted to go to school for art, but his dad was an alcoholic and would call him "gay" and I'm pretty sure he roughed up his son in the film for being an artist. The mom was more sympathetic and that's really all I can remember.
