England, 1830's. Young woman gets a job as housekeeper or nanny for a young man who is struggling to invent a stable photographic process. They become lovers, she helps him find the process he's looking for (it involves salt!), then eventually moves on and becomes a photographer in her own right. Maybe based on a true story.
