I'm looking for the title of a romantic British TV series period drama (possibly Regency period) which aired (possibly on the BBC) in the 1990s. The plot follows a maid who, unusually, is educated (perhaps from a former employer?) so when she employed in a new home of the landed gentry, she is somewhat set apart. The heir to the estate falls in love with her. The one scene I remember clearly has the young master looking in on the "downstairs" staff playing a game where everyone stands in a circle, and each chosen person must either perform a dance, a song, or a rhyme. Since most of the staff are uneducated, they usually choose one of the first two. The maid chooses "rhyme", and astounds everyone by reciting a poem. Does anyone know this period drama TV show?
