I saw an old, old movie, years ago about servants in a drab, dark environment downstairs. Very tight quarters, always up & dwn the skinny stairs. There were scenes with the rather obese Master visiting some of the help at night(if you know what i mean). There was a crime (i think a murder?)and the police came, no one(the help) would talk to them. They kept coming back to try to get them to talk. One of the Masters tried to kill himself (the butler saved him). I remember it was a old film, very dark (camera wise),but the acting was excellent, heavy accents. Now that i have a greater appreciation for such things, I want to watch it in it's entirety. I looked for hours - keep coming up with Upstairs/Downstairs. Don't think that was it - cause the movie was definitely B & W. and very OLD!
