I came across this movie at least 5 years ago. It was on television one night and I never got to see the end of it and it's haunted me since. I can only remember bits and pieces.
I think the story is set in between 1700s- early 1900s. Could be in England.
So I think it starts out with this girl coming off a ship? She's picked up in a horse drawn carriage by a women, but I think the girl was expecting her aunt(?) and not the women. Women tells the girl shell see her at the house.
The aunt(?) is a bit stuck up, like the child is a burden.
The girl leaves her bedroom window open one night.
The girl reads a green book or pamphlet in kitchen about something.
The girl falls asleep on the roof of the house and no one can find her until a man does.
Later on in the movie, the aunt and the girl come back from somewhere and it has been raining (i think) and the aunt(?) lets the girl fix her hair until she sees a man(love interest ?) in the mirror.
I'm sorry. I know it's not a lot to go on. I saw the movie was I was about 7. I never been able to find it. If you could help me that would be fabulous.
