Title Help

OK...breaking into my memory vault on this one. Old, black & white film...could be 30s or 40s. One set throughout entire film with only two actors. The set is a bedroom with the film beginning with newly weds enjoying their honeymoon and having a lovely conversation in their new home. As the film progresses, they have children but you never see them. Only hear about them via the couple's conversations. I believe one or two sons are killed in WW1? The years go buy and we learn a lot about this lovely couple via their dramatic conversations. I don't remember the ending but I believe it involved tears!
I thought a stage play was made from the film with a different title from the movie. It would be my Christmas gift if anyone could come up with the title. Possibly a British film with British actors. Good luck. Thank you!
