I took at look - you're right, it's very similar. However, I remember the girl as a virgin, being sold for money into marriage. And the husband was a fussy little man, uptight, the type to wear a bowler hat. The husband was a jerk throughout, I think raped her on their wedding night, and at one point physically attacked her in some way. In response, she (or someone else) defended against the attack and I think the husband was accidentally kills. There was an older teen boy who got into trouble and ran from the authorities toward the end of the movie. I wish I could remember more.
