Hi

Can anyone help me identify this period drama - or film.  My husband remembers it but I'm afraid it means nothing to me and he's driving me mad.  He says that it revolved round a church and the choir.  A new vicar arrives and brings with him a new organ which the choir refuse to sing along with.  The vicar then decides to leave and travel the world and he proposes to the lady organist who says 'No' as she wants to stay in the village.

Sorry - he can't remember anything else.

It could be Catherine Cookson, a classic or basically anything!!  Please help!!!

Many Thanks
Jackie

Hi Jackie,
Thanks very much for joining the forum and posting your question here!
It sounds a bit like Under the Greenwood Tree. Hope that helps!
I should add that film to the timeline! :-)

Susannah is right, this is definitely 'Under the Greenwood Tree' by Thomas Hardy - I enjoyed the TV adaptation of this early Hardy, which is much more lighthearted than most of his works, though I love them too!
