Hi Crafthole,

Thanks very much for your Cranford messages and for your other suggestions!
I must admit I only saw one episode of Cranford and then unfortunately missed the rest. I will try to watch it in full before the Christmas episodes come out so that I know what is happening :-)
I have just added this to the timeline.
I am very impressed with your knowledge of history! Your estimate for Cranford matched very well with the dates given here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cranford_(2007_TV_series)

Thanks for sharing you experience with Johnny Depp! :-) I would have been very excited if that were me! Did he happen to say anything?
Are you an archeologist?

I have not forgotten your previous suggestions. I will add them as soon as possible :-) Thanks again and have a nice weekend!

I do indeed have the singular honour of being an archaeologist.   I am an archaeological/historical researcher rather than the digging kind these days, which means I get to poke my nose into all sorts of interesting stuff and find myself intrigued by the strangest things.  Although alas, in these present days of banking woe, not for much longer in a real sense.

The Depstar said........" thank you". I was too gob smacked to have opened a door to see him striding purposely towards me in dutch coat, wig and bucket tops to manage any more than a squawked "your welcome"  whilst dressed in my combats and hi-vi and sporting a comical hard hat with extra cyberman like ear defender attachments.

It sounds like a very interesting field to be in. I'm very sorry to hear that the financial situation is influencing this. I hope it all turns out alright! :-)

I can really picture the scene of your meeting from your description and I can understand you going a bit quiet as it was such a surprise :-) The only famous person I met was Ken Hom (I queued to get my cookbook of his signed when he came to a food festival in Plymouth in 2006). Even though I knew I would meet him, I was useless and I hardly said anything!

Hi

I think i can throw light on the dates for Man for all Seasons.

The opening scenes deal with More and Wolsey discussing the commencement of proceedings to annul Henry VIII's marriage to Katherine of Aragon which puts the start in 1527. It ends with More's execution in 1535.

Thanks very much Crafthole. I have adjusted the start date to 1527.

Greetings

i hope to be able to throw more light on dates.

In this instance:

Dangerous Liasons. The exact date is not clear from the film of 1988 although the manners and dress suggest it occurs just before the French Revolution. The film is based on a book by Choderlos de Laclos who was probably describing contemporary antics. this was written in 1782 so i would be tempted to plump for that.

Hi Crafthole
Thanks very much for this suggestion. I spent some time today trying to work it out but could not make a decision. I found some websites quoting that the film was set in 1788, but this seems odd if the novel was written in 1782! I'll go with 1782 :-) Thanks again!

Hi

RE: Fanny Hill.

John Cleland published tyhe story in 1748-1749.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanny_Hill

(Those of a more delicate sensibility may like to avert their eyes from the pictures on the right!)

It is a pretty contemporary story so a timeline date of 148/9 would not be inappropriate.

Some fascinating insights into this side of 18th century life can also be divined from a trawl through Harris's List which was a contemporary guide book to the ladies of Covent Garden (Ever wondered what Wickam  got up to in London?).

Hi I have a couple of suggestions for the timeline. Firstly two Australian films,
Breaker Morant which I think begins in 1902. (That is the date of the events described though it is many years since I watched it.)
My Brilliant Career. set approx 1900. It was published in 1901 and the setting was contemporary to the time of writing.
Also an Australian TV series. (this was shown once in the Uk.) Timeless Land which begins in 1788 and ends at about 1811.
I also have a couple of British series though I am not sure of most of them are relevant as they are outside the period covered by the time line.
The Devils Crown. depicting the reign of Henry 11 and his sons. (apologies if you already have this one.)
Testament of Youth begining in 1914 finishing early 1920s
And also WW1 the ongoing series Wings about the Royal Flying Corps Beginning 1914 again.
Janette.

Hi Janette,
Thank you so much for these suggestions! The dates are also very much appreciated.
I will try to add them this weekend! At present, the timeline goes back to 60 BC, and up to 1914. When starting this website, we decided to not include films starting during or after WW1, as this would add probably 100s of films all to be listed in just a few years. I think I will probably extend the timeline in the future though (or maybe change the display of the timeline), when the rest of the timeline is more filled!
Have a nice weekend and thanks again! Smiley

Thanks for explaining that. I was wondering about the end date of the timeline. I see your point. I guess war films are technically costume dramas.
Cheers

Thanks very much, both of you, for the great suggestions. I have added Goya's Ghosts and am getting through your's janette! I've been trying to verify all of the filming locations for Breaker Morant! :-)
I haven't seen any of these films so your suggestions are greatly appreciated!
